Kingdom of Danhomè, a most fascinating architectural, cultural, historical and conservation challenge

There are a number of ways you could approach the study of this kingdom, located in Benin. Each approach would be fascinating, whether architectural, cultural, linguistic, conservationist, or historical. The kingdom was one of three major slave trade centers in West Africa as well. Today, however, it is the focus of major conservation and preservation efforts, efforts that face several very difficult challenges, one of the most important presented by tough language issues. If anyone ever tells you that maintaining detailed knowledge of native languages is not important, well, they need only look at this kingdom in the modern era to see why they are wrong.
